001.5: Ritual as Oasis (and other Stuff)
Shows March 8th, 2006
This is the first of our off-week shows. We’re going to do the heavy topics wiith interviews every other week, but on the off week, we’ll be bringing you short essays, book reviews, and other things. Chris will go over all of that in this show, and he has some thoughts on ritual as an oasis in the desert of the Real.

I have found that in many traditions, particularly meditative ones, something akin to the idea of ritual as oasis is present. For this reason, a Zen book I browsed (and I can’t remember the title of) stressed that it is important to “sit hard,” to keep to a schedule and do it even when you don’t want to, are tired, etc., to allow the practice to deepen. Likewise, one could “ritualize hard,” take the time even if it’s not convenient. It won’t make you a better pagan for making proper obeisances by this or that system, but done with a good attitude it will keep you more open to a spiritual life on the whole.

Hey, just wanted to congratulate you for the show. Michelle and Chris are great, and the content is very interesting and well explained, and I got to listen to one of my favorite authors interviewing another one of my favorite authors, Christopher Penczak. The music is great, well, everything. Keep up the great work
