Shadowdance 007: Polarized Deities & Changing Concepts of Gender
As we move into the 21st century, we are starting to accept that gender is not a black and white issue. Medical science has taught us that not even biological sex is as simple as either male or female — 1 in 100 people is intersexed, meaning that either physically, hormonally, or genetically, their bodies combine male and female characteristics. However, modern neo-Paganism tends to retain a polarized approach to deities. There are gods and there are goddesses, priestesses and priests. How can we adapt to changing concepts of gender? Are there precedents that have been set in past traditions that allow for something more than just male and female? How much would it change our view of the world to encompass more than two gender identities in our approach to deity?

Wow, great podcast! I mean really, really great. I love how in-depth you guys are. And it really was relevant to me, just recently trying to figure myself in the gender/orientation/sex way. I seem to be an underdeveloped female, totally infertile and asexual. So I don’t know what the hell is going on. I never worried about it before because I just thought I was a late bloomer, but I’m 20 now so I’m getting the feeling I’m going to stay this way.
Anyway, I am definitely going to stay subscribed to this podcast, even if it is as infrequent as my own

I just listened to this cast - yeah I am a bit behind LOl but I just had to write and make a comment. I am of your parents generation…. yeah I am an old hippie practioner of the craft and have been since the sixties. I guess that I just have to say that not all of my generation drive SUV’s and buy face cream. I hear a lot of complaints about my generation on podcasts - I even heard one that blamed us for global warming. I guess that there are few of us that are like that but just as not all of you are “slackers” or whatever they call you now days - not all of us are SUV driving jerks. Some of us thought that we could make the world a better place for your generation by simplifing things, but although we did our best the mainstream won the day. Also I have to comment that I am a survivior of the pre-feminism days and have a very different view of the role of men and women in our culture. blah blah blah anyway I have been a fan of your cast for quite a while and hope that you do not mind if I rant just a little. It is a good podcast keep it up - thanks
