Shadowdance 028: Live at the Kheperu Open House

Site News May 31st, 2009

Michelle is back from her book and lecture tour,  Chris has moved home from Los Angeles, and the 2009 House Kheperu Open House gave us the perfect opportunity to sit and take questions from our friends.  What following is 79 minutes of rambling goodness which we hope you’ll enjoy.

(Note from Chris: I’m going to start posting to my LJ account again, since it seems that most of you folks have journals there. Please friend me up…I’m not sure I can find everyone on my own!)

Great show, sounded like a diverse and enjoyable crowd! Glad to hear a new show.

I was very interested by the comment made by one of the house members concerning religion, and how it places limitations on people. While at first blush this sounds like a negative, I think he hit upon something far deeper. While I simply cannot say that religion is THE way to enlightenment, I find it to be akin to one who closes their eyes when meditating, or one who must be in an absolutely quiet environment to concentrate. Sometimes to reach higher points of spirituality or to focus our energies to transcend to different mystical realms, we must limit certain aspects of our self (whether sensory perception or perhaps the “inner dialog”) in order to direct our energies to the task at hand. In this regard, perhaps religion can be said to be akin to purposely limiting some distracting aspect ourselves in order to provide ourselves the opportunity to focus. The Mystic Path must begin in structure, otherwise many great women and men would simply fall away.

It’s like asking what time it is, and being told how to build a watch. First, structure and superficial response. After, the journey of searching the depths can begin. As Michelle eloquently stated, some answers have to be learned and cannot be given.

We then grow - not by continuing to blindly follow “the rules”, but to learn the primordial source of such religious constructs and to add wisdom to the world using the language that speaks to the psyche.
