Yep. I said boo-boo.

In the "Kids, don't try this at home." episode, she spoke briefly about faeries.

Here's the thing. Her description was of little people. Not faeries, but Pixies. There is quite a difference there, but it's been a common mistake since the 1800s and before.

Faeries are person-size, while pixies are the wee folk.

Just thought I should point that out for the sake of my heritage(Scottish/Irish...Faeries are a big part of the culture and history, y'know)!

...that and The Morrighan's been bothering me about it.
War goddesses can be just as annoying as people sometimes!
(oh she's mad that I typed that too). Grin

Actually...

Pixies may be small, but they're not tiny little lights.  According to lore, the "faerie lights" or the "faery fire" that most people associate with fae, i.e. little bright sparky thingies that zip and float around like fireflies, are actually a mark of the glamour the Folk are using to beguile and beglamour mortals.

Pixies are most commonly associated with these lights because the lore says they're best at it.  Technically, however, the pixies are actually just a derogatory slang word for the Picts, like Gypsies for the Rom.

That being said, DR490NW4RRI0R is quite right.  Faeries were originally human sized, or at least, not teeny bug sized.  Truth be told, the fae range in size on an even broader scope than humans do.  And, if we're specific, some fae really are very small, three to six inches in height.  They're not Sidhe, of course, but they are still fae.

Those aren't pixies, though.  Pixies are actually about two to three feet in height, if we're to listen to the lore.

In any case, fae can be whatever size they want to be: they're shapechangers and trickster-folk, save for a few kinds in the Courts.

*chuckles*  Gods, I can't believe I'm sitting here clarifying about the fae...  Too much woogy in my life, I need a break.  Or a drink.  Or both.

So, you tell me what I summoned in the woods with you, Greg & Miranda that was busy looking like fireflies all over the place! They sure looked like beings, not just glamour, and not just will o' the wisps. We've had those things out here all my life -- I don't have a better name for them than fey.

Oh, I'm more than certain those were fey, some sort of sprites actually.  The little lights and stuff are just signs of the presence of pixies, according to lore; they're supposed to be able to look like a number of things, which is why some people don't know when they see them.  If you see the lights, you're supposedly under a spell.

*grins*

See, I didn't see fireflies.  I saw little creatures.  Wink

But then, I know how fey work, and I cast a spell to see through glamoury before we went out there.  LOL  So, they didn't look like lights to me, they looked like little shifting creatures of some sort.

Sorry guys, going to have to disagree with both of you :p  The terms "fairy", "faery", "fairie", and "faerie" have all been used interchangeably with "fey" or "fae" to describe a whole passel of beings.  Pixies/demi-fey are indeed generally considered under the umbrella term of fey.  The larger-sized anthropomorphic fey are often referred to as sidhe (or part-sidhe) or royals/high court.  But all of them are still fey/fae, or inhabitants of the realm of fairy/faery/fairie/faerie.  I'm not saying it's right that those terms have been so interchangeable, but little Tinkerbellesque fireflies can still very much be "fey" or inhabitants of faerie.  I'm with Michelle on this one.
