As someone that just came over and started listening to the podcast, I figured I would come and introduce myself. I heard about the 'cast from JC Hutchin's ultracreatives interview with Chris, and it sounded interesting. In fact, when I was first starting to listen to podcasts, I was looking for exactly this sort of thing. I hadn't looked in a while, and... lo and behold, one had popped up! Hurrah!

Anyways, I have been very interested in magick/energy work for quite some time. I have looked in to different "pagan" styled religions, though most of them don't have exactly that draw for me that I'm looking for in a religion, I still find myself very drawn towards the energy work at the least. So I'm sure that much of the 'cast will be of interest to me.

Looking forward to getting all caught up. Three down...a bunch to go! Cheers!

Welcome to our (quiet) little corner.

I'm curious (if it's not too probing), what religions did you look into?  How did they not fit (i.e. what were you still looking for that they didn't have)?

Not too probing at all.

The religions that I looked in to tended to be "main stream" Pagan (primarily Wiccan/Druidic/Shamanism, though I spent some time reading on the practices of the Egyptian religions). I should also note that I looked into Buddhism, and while they technically fall in to the 'pagan' category, I don't actually consider them a religion. More of an ideology.

I think most religions that I looked in to didn't 'click' for me, because I don't agree with the idea of deity... Well, not exactly, anyways. While I absolutely believe that there is a "guiding force" in the universe, and that there had to be some "initial cause" to form the world, I have a hard time with any religion that tries to make that "force" in to a "person". I don't have a problem with the symbols, nor with asking the universe for some boon.. It mostly comes from the idea of "connecting with the person-deity." Yes, the person-deity could be a symbol, but it's usually not considered to be that way (at least not in the religions I have seen).

In my way of looking at things, everything is made up of energy. You can work with that energy, use intentions and symbols to enhance or detract from it, but in the end, it's still just energy. That's probably why they didn't feel like the 'right' fit.
