Vampirism vs Reiki

I read this article by Michelle on the House Kheperu site. Pretty good article. I just ordered Michelle's book so I don't understand the real details of Vampirism (except what I read in the article and heard on the show). However, I do know Reiki and so this was kind of cool. I always felt that Reiki is not complete. It is this aspect that weakens it.
So... I went back to some of the stories that my mother used to tell me about the healing techniques that some of the yogi's used in India. If the person was extremely sick, the yogi would go out and ask a plant or tree (depending on how sick the person is) for its life. She explained that the tree gives its life for the life of the person and then the person can be healed. Based on what I have learned of Reiki, it is missing the vampiric aspect of it. The ability to use energy from plants (or people if needed) and being a conduit to pushing the energy through you to heal someone would likely help make Reiki complete.
By the way, I worship Shiva also but I am sure I am not a vampire. Shiva, to me, is exactly what Michelle described, he is the end of of things, the end of ignorance. The end of pain. Shiva is also the God of Science and knowledge. Basically, he is change. All Change. So, to me, he is also Reiki since Reiki is ending the illness.
One last comment, all Gods actions are both negative and positive in Hindu thought. So... a vampire who takes energy potentially is clearing out blocks that would have created issues later. Potentially a vampire is as great a healer as a Reiki. Again, until both are combined, I don't think we will see a complete healer.
Does that make sense?

It does make sense to me. I've read Michelle's Codex, and I have some experience with Reiki.
I believe what you're saying is that to take energy from others works on their subtle body, essentially healing it, and making it stronger. Reiki healers do similar when they heal a person, working on their immune systems to heal them, making them stronger, etc.
Am I near the mark?

I think you are pretty close.
Vampirism takes energy away from the person and that can heal it because there are illnesses that are caused by energy blocking/building up in areas.
Reiki works by adding energy and you pretty much have to push through blockages.
The other aspect is where you actually NEED more energy than your body can build. Using vampiric methods, I think you should be able to draw on other energy sources (like trees and other living things) and then use that energy to push even more energy then normal Reiki users can do.
Basically, use one talent to pull and the other to push depending on the root cause of the illness.

In the "Vampires, Otherkin and Therians" podcast Michelle discussed the concept of shamans as "wounded healers". In some other sources (I forget where) I also read of shamans as having a sort of vampiric side sometimes, like stories of a shaman who is really an evil sorcerer and who takes energy from people instead of healing them. What a traditional shaman does in healing is probably close to what a yogi healer could do. Maybe because these kinds of healers work with invisable energy and magical forces, people have been suspicious of them and thought of some of them as "evil". Or maybe some of them have been more "gray" in their practices, taking what they needed or wanted from people who might've treated them as outsiders when they didn't need a favor from them. Then too, energy has to come from somewhere, so why not from a plant or animal that's sacrificed to help heal a person?

though you do not want a 100% balance, after all if the universe were completely symmetrical, it would not be as we see it now. if one looks at the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) you'd notice that it is nearly symmetrical. this asymmetry is what allows matter as we know it to exist. pm me if you want to know more, i really need to re-read my Hawkings books

Hmm. I've taken a cursory look at some of the ideas of Reiki, but the logic behind some of thsi stuff is a tad presumptuous and shakey, though still pretty valid.
I actually broached the subject of auras and energy work in my Philosophy class recently, and as we've just gotten onto the topic of metaphysics, my Philosophy teacher, who considers herself an "aetheist hindu" has mentioned she might want to talk a bit about reiki to the class, and have me come up and share some of what I know about the concepts behind energy work.
I wonder if I might be able to broach the subject of psychic vampirism in a delicate way without mentioning the word "vampire".

Well...it depends on how specific and non-theoretical you want to be. There's stuff in some Eastern texts about "hungry ghosts", but I was thinking more about if you give a background from the Chinese system or the Hindu system about people having Qi or prana, you could postulate that just as there are people with nutritional deficiencies, it could be feasible that some people may have energetic deficiencies that could affect their health and not even mention people vampirizing others, maybe? I know some folks don't call themselves vampires, they say something like "energy-deficient" or "energy diabetic".
All I gotta say about reiki is it's one of the few woogy things that I use with skeptics because you don't have to believe in it in order to feel something happening.
